East Sussex in Figures (ESiF) is a Local Information System that provides the latest statistics on the social, economic and demographic character of East Sussex and its communities.

ESiF Update

East Sussex in Figures will be undergoing some exciting changes over the next few months. We need to renovate the website to meet accessibility requirements and replace outdated software. We are working jointly with Public Health colleagues to present key data and analysis about East Sussex in one place.

In 2022 the population of East Sussex was 550,720, 3.8% higher than in 2012 (England up 6.7%), and 0.7% higher than in mid-year 2021. A new briefing is now available analysing the population estimates.

The East Sussex population is projected to grow by nearly 66,000 in the next 15 years, from 550,700 in 2022 to 616,300.  A new briefing is now available which examines the results of the 2024 dwelling-led population, household and workforce projections, which are produced by ESCC.

In East Sussex in 2022 there were 24,015 active businesses, down from 24,335 in 2021. There were more business closures (2,335) than business starts (2,185).

There were 10,675 unemployed claimants of Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) and Universal Credit (UC - searching for work conditionality) in November 2023 (3.4% of working age people). A briefing on unemployment is now available
