Population estimates
The mid-year population estimates are produced annually by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) for every local authority and health area in England & Wales. They include detailed components of change – births, deaths and migration.
Future population
Population projections provide an indication of the future size and age structure of the population. These projections are based on the latest mid-year population estimates They also use a set of assumptions of future fertility, mortality and migration. They are dwelling–led demographic projections based on planned housing figures provided by the districts and boroughs.

National Insurance Numbers
The issuing of National Insurance numbers (NINo) to overseas nationals gives us some insight into economic migration, as all non-UK nationals require a National Insurance number to work in the UK.
