We have published a new briefing analysing ESCC’s latest set of dwelling-led demographic projections from spring 2025.
You can access them here: Demographic projections – May 25
These projections use the most up to date data on population, births, deaths and migration from the ONS. They also use the latest plans for future housing from the districts and boroughs, supplied in spring 2025 (dwelling-led).
Key points from the latest briefing
- The East Sussex population is projected to grow by nearly 45,000 in the next 15 years, from 555,500 in 2023 to 600,300 in 2038.
- There is projected to be a large increase in the number of people aged 65 and over, but declines among younger age groups.
- The very oldest group aged 85+ are projected to increase by 82%.
- Wealden is projected to see the most growth, but Rother and Lewes are also projected to see significant increases. Hastings will see only a marginal rise and Eastbourne a slight decline in population over the 15 years from 2023-2038.
- The number of households is projected to grow faster than the population, as household size continues to decline.
