Unemployment and Claimants
The Claimant Count measures the number of people who have made claims for benefits (Universal Credit (UC) or JobSeekers Allowance (JSA)) because they are unemployed and actively seeking work. A broader group of people on low income who are working, too sick to work or have caring responsibilities, can also claim Universal Credit.
The latest Benefits Briefing (published January 2025) analyses the Unemployed Claimant count and Universal Credit claimant data for November 2024 as well as examining the data about claimants of other benefits and pensioners.
